Morocco Team News
Jorge Vilda’s team is coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso on November 28, with Morocco’s lone goal coming via Al Ahli forward Ibtissam Jraidi.
Tonight will be the two teams’ first meeting since July 7,2022, a painful night for the Atlas Lionesses as they saw their opponents lift the WAFCON trophy at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium after a 2-1 defeat.
After two consecutive WAFCON finals losses, Ghizlane Chebbak and her teammates are eyeing the 2026 WAFCON as an opportunity to finally bring the elusive trophy home. Already established as a powerhouse on the continent, the Lionesses will seek to confirm that status tonight against a difficult opponent.
South Africa Team News
South Africa’s head coach Desiree Ellis expects tonight’s match to be a physical challenge for the Banyana Banyana.
“Morocco, they are probably the best team in North Africa at the moment,” she said. “You know, two successive WAFCON finals and they’re growing in leaps and bounds. You know that they will bring the physicality.”
Ellis also looks forward to assessing how her side will fare against Vilda’s positional play principles.
“They will also bring their positional play and they will want to see, you know, we will want to see how we match up against them,” Ellis added.
