Marrakech – After a first round of games marked with upsets, Group A of the Arab Cup resumes play today with Syria taking on hosts Qatar at Khalifa International Stadium.
The Syrians will be looking tonight to confirm a strong opening 1-0 victory over Tunisia and inch closer to knockout stage qualification.
Meanwhile, Qatar, coming off a poor result to Palestine, already have their backs against the wall. Julen Lopetegui’s men need a better result tonight to keep hopes of progressing to the next stage alive.

Syria Team News
Jose Lana’s squad are approaching this pivotal match with confidence after a statement win over Tunisia in their tournament opener.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Lana stated that his team is capable of defeating Qatar.
“The Qatari national team is a strong team and has very distinguished players, but in football anything is possible, and we will see what happens tomorrow,” Lana said.
The Syrian team has been in good form in 2025, winning five of its seven matches. Tonight, a positive result could see Lana’s team already put one foot in the quarter-finals.
Qatar Team News
Qatar’s first match of the tournament ended in heartbreaking fashion, conceding a stoppage time own-goal to a resilient Palestinian team.
In its first match of the tournament, Lopetegui’s team dominated possession of the football (63%), but to no avail. The Qataris delivered a sterile, unthreatening, and uninspired performance in their competition opener, creating one lone big scoring chance per Sofascore.
Lopetegui criticized his team’s performance after the conclusion of the match.
“I am not happy with the performance; we wasted a lot of chances and conceded an own goal in stoppage time, but that’s football,” the manager commented in a post-match interview.
Still, the Spanish manager believes Qatar can bounce back from the defeat.
“We are looking ahead, focusing on the upcoming matches, and I am confident that we will perform better in the next two games,” Lopetegui added.
Score Prediction: Syria 1 – 1 Qatar
