Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tahraoui, held a series of important meetings on Saturday in Tokyo with health officials from several countries. The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships and sharing expertise in the health sector, on the sidelines of the 2025 High-Level Forum on Universal Health Coverage.

Tahraoui met first with Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin. The two officials discussed ways to exchange experience in implementing universal health coverage, especially strategies to include the informal sector, improve citizen participation, and ensure the financial sustainability of health reforms.

They also addressed how to better regulate healthcare costs and enhance collaboration with the private sector. Both ministers expressed their willingness to deepen technical cooperation in these priority areas.

The Moroccan minister also met with Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). Their talks focused on Morocco’s contribution to strengthening Africa’s health sovereignty, as well as Africa CDC’s strategic priorities in preparedness, response, and health governance.

Both sides hailed the quality of their partnership and agreed to reinforce coordination on major continental initiatives.

Tahraoui held another meeting with Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, Undersecretary for Sectoral Integration and Coordination of Medical Services in Mexico. They discussed ways to share expertise in drug development, central procurement processes, and the digitalization of health services.

Both officials emphasized the convergence of their priorities and committed to continuing dialogue and technical exchanges.

The High-Level Forum on Universal Health Coverage, organized by the Japanese government together with the World Health Organization and the World Bank Group, provides a platform for health and finance ministers to advance universal health coverage through innovative approaches to reform and financing.
