Rabat – Morocco reaffirmed on Tuesday its firm and long-standing support for the justice of the Palestinian cause during an event held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Speaking at the ceremony hosted at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Morocco’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nouzha Alaoui Mohammedi, stated that resolving the Palestinian issue remains essential for building peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.

Alaoui Mohammedi, who also serves as Chair of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Addis Ababa, said that any solution must be based on the internationally agreed two-state solution, founded on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.

She also recalled the leading role of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, in supporting Palestinians, especially the residents of Jerusalem, through political, diplomatic, and on-the-ground efforts.

According to the ambassador, the Committee works on two complementary levels, including political and diplomatic, by defending Palestinian rights, strengthening Palestine’s presence internationally, and protecting the legal status of East Jerusalem as an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

She also recalled the committee’s field work through the initiatives of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, which supports the city and helps its residents remain steadfast amid ongoing pressure.

Alaoui Mohammedi noted that this year’s commemoration comes at a moment of growing international recognition of the State of Palestine, describing it as an important political shift that places the Palestinian question once again at the center of global attention.

The event was attended by Palestinian Foreign Minister Farsin Agabkian Shahin, the Executive Secretary of UNECA Claver Gatete, African Union Commission Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and several diplomats based in Addis Ababa.

The commemoration took place as the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories continues to worsen. In Gaza, Israel’s genocidal attacks are still causing heavy civilian casualties, despite the ongoing ceasefire, with entire neighborhoods destroyed and families displaced for the second and third time. Shortages of food and clean water persist, and humanitarian aid remains restricted.

Meanwhile in the West Bank, Israeli forces continue to carry out raids in several cities and refugee camps, leading to arrests, injuries, and deaths among Palestinians.

Settler violence has also increased, putting more pressure on Palestinian communities.
