Rabat – The provincial directorate of the Ministry of National Education in Safi has announced the suspension of classes across all educational institutions in the province for three days due to adverse weather conditions.

In a statement, the directorate said the decision was taken in coordination with provincial authorities following heavy thunderstorms and torrential rainfall that affected Safi.

As a preventive measure, classes will be suspended on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The move comes in response to weather alerts issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology and aims to protect the safety of students as well as teaching and administrative staff amid heightened risks linked to flooding, the statement said.

The provincial directorate added that coordination has been established with school principals to ensure safety measures are effectively implemented.

These include activating the local monitoring cell, maintaining close coordination with all relevant stakeholders and local authorities, taking necessary preventive steps, and responding promptly to official weather alerts.

According to the same source, two primary schools were affected by flooding following the exceptional rainfall recorded in the province last Sunday. No casualties were reported.

The death toll in Safi has climbed to 37 this morning following the severe weather. The disaster has ignited widespread reactions online, with many expressing shock and outrage at the scale of the destruction.

Some questioned whether early warnings were adequate, while others pointed to the city’s infrastructure, suggesting it may be ill-equipped to withstand such extreme conditions.

Authorities stated that all relevant services remain fully deployed to continue searching for missing persons, conduct field operations, secure affected areas, and provide assistance to the impacted communities.

They added that dozens of injured residents have received medical care, with most discharged and the remaining patients still under observation.
