Marrakech – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced in a press release on Wednesday an unprecedented 20 media rights partnerships across 30 European territories for the coverage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be hosted in Morocco starting December 21.
Among these deals is a notable partnership with the United Kingdom’s Channel 4, which will broadcast all 52 AFCON matches on a free-to-air basis, a first in the history of the tournament.
The competition will also be free-to-air in Greece and Norway, following broadcast partnerships with networks ERT and VGTV, respectively.
CAF also announced a new partnership with Spanish broadcast giants Movistar, citing “the country’s strong Moroccan diaspora and deep connections between CAF AFCON and Spanish football.”
European broadcasters from previous editions such as Sport Italia (Italy), Ziggo (Netherlands), and SportDigital (Austria, Switzerland, Germany) will continue providing their coverage during this year’s tournament as well.
“This record number of broadcast partnerships across Europe reflects the growing global appeal and commercial strength of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations and African football,” the CAF statement read.
The 2025 AFCON’s intercontinental appeal is not limited to the old continent. According to Moroccan outlet Le360, the tournament will also mark the first time a large number of Latin and North American outlets, including industry leaders such as ESPN, CBS Sports, and La Tribuna, will ensure AFCON coverage.
Earlier this month, reports revealed that this year’s AFCON is set be the first in history to leverage High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology in its broadcasting, providing viewers around the globe with sharper images and richer colors.
