ONDA Rolls Out Digital Check-In, Baggage Systems at Airports

Rabat – Morocco has taken another step towards the modernization of its airport infrastructure with the official launch of a digital passenger journey system by the National Airports Office (ONDA).

The initiative covers key stages of the travel process, from check-in to baggage drop-off, allowing passengers to complete formalities independently through newly installed self-service technologies.

Central to the system are automated check-in kiosks and Self Bag Drop units, which enable travelers to print boarding passes, tag their luggage, and deposit bags without going through traditional counters.

The rollout has started at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, the country’s main air hub, where the first batch of self-service and automated baggage drop equipment is now operational.

According to ONDA, the system relies on digital and biometric solutions that comply with current safety and security standards, while significantly cutting down queues inside terminals.

“This new setup allows passengers to manage their airport procedures more quickly and with greater autonomy,” ONDA said, noting that several airlines are already using the system, with others expected to join in the coming phases.

The launch forms part of broader operational measures designed to keep pace with rising air traffic, particularly as Morocco prepares to host major international events, such as 2030 FIFA World Cup, and the currently ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), that are expected to place additional pressure on airport capacity.

Through this digital shift, ONDA seeks to improve the overall passenger experience while boosting the operational efficiency of airports, aligning national infrastructure with evolving international practices and the changing habits of air travelers.
