Rabat- The year 2025 will be a defining moment in Moroccan sporting history. Moroccan athletes and teams delivered unprecedented success across stadiums, arenas, and championships worldwide. The real takeaway isn’t just how many trophies were won, but how wide-ranging the success was, from strong youth football development to top-level individual performances across multiple sports.
For starters, Moroccan football had an outstanding year, leaving a clear mark on the continental scene at every level.
The momentum began with the youth teams. In May, Morocco’s U-17 side lifted the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, a clear sign of the strength of the country’s youth development system. Winning the tournament as hosts made the achievement even more special. That success set the tone for what followed later in the year, when the Atlas Cubs went on to make history in October by winning their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup, defeating Argentina 2–0 in the final in Chile.
The U-17 success was reinforced once again at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the age group, where the Atlas Cubs claimed their maiden continental title by beating Mali on penalties after a goalless final in Mohammedia.

The senior teams delivered as well. Morocco won the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with an exciting 3–2 victory over Madagascar, while the reserve side added the FIFA Arab Cup after edging Jordan 3–2 in December. At club level, AS FAR reclaimed the CAF Women’s Champions League in November, beating ASEC Mimosas 2–1.
Off the pitch, Morocco also impressed as a host, successfully staging the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament underlined the country’s ability to deliver major international events and confirmed Morocco’s place among Africa’s leading football nations, both on and off the field.
Individual achievements
Morocco also shone through individual accomplishments.
At the 2025 CAF Awards, Moroccan stars were recognized with historic honors. Achraf Hakimi became the first defender in 52 years to be named African Player of the Year, while Ghizlane Chebbak made history as the first Moroccan woman to win African Women’s Player of the Year.
Success beyond football
Morocco’s success this year extended well beyond football. On the athletics track, Soufiane El Bakkali continued his dominance by winning the 3,000 m steeplechase event at the Monaco Diamond League meeting, acheived the world’s best performance of that category at the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting in Rabat and got the silver medal in the 3,000 m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, further cementing his status as one of the country’s greatest athletes.
Morocco also shone in combat sports. Saïd Oubaya claimed gold in the men’s kumite -67 kg at the 2025 World Games in China and was named Best Athlete of the Year, while Moroccan boxers delivered a clean sweep at the 6th African Military Boxing Championship, winning all 10 gold medals on offer.
Additionally, Amina Dehhaoui was crowned U21 Taekwondo World Champion in Kenya in December 2025.
Women’s futsal added another historic chapter, as Morocco’s national team lifted the 2025 Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, underlining the country’s growing success across multiple sports.
All in all, Morocco has built a winning culture that’s paying off across every single sport.
