Morocco’s Weather Office Reports Heavy Rainfall, Snowfall Expected in Several Provinces

Strong winds and heavy rain between 80 to 120 millimeters will affect mountainous areas through Friday and Saturday.

Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology announced on Thursday that heavy rainfall, snowfall, and winds are expected to hit several provinces across the country on Friday and Saturday.

The weather office said in a red-level alert notice that heavy rain will cover mountainous areas within the provinces of Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira, with downpours estimated between 80 to 120 millimeters from Friday 5 p.m. to Saturday 6 p.m.

Moderately heavy rain all ranging between 30 and 45 millimeters, is expected during the same period in the provinces of Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inzegane, Ait Melloul, and Tiznit.

The same weather will also affect Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Youssoufia.

Snowfall above 1,600 meters will range from 10 to 30 centimeters from Saturday midnight to 6 p.m. in the provinces of Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua.

Strong to locally very strong winds are also expected on Friday from midnight to 11 p.m., ranging from 95 to 105 kilometers per hour in the provinces of Al Haouz and Chichaoua.

Winds between 90 to 100 kilometers per hour will concern El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Midelt, and Azilal.

Winds between 75 to 90 kilometers per hour will affect Youssoufia, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, El Kelaa Seraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Agadir Ida-Outanane, and Taroudant.
