Rabat – Côte d’Ivoire delivered a commanding performance to defeat Burkina Faso 3–0 in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, securing their place in the quarterfinals.

The match, held at Stade Adrar in Agadir, saw the defending champions dominate from start to finish, reaffirming their status as one of the strongest candidates to lift the trophy.

The Elephants opened the scoring early in the 20th minute through Manchester United star Amad Diallo, who fired a powerful right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box into the top corner. Just twelve minutes later, Diallo turned provider, assisting Yan Diomande for Côte d’Ivoire’s second goal. Diomande finished calmly from the center of the box to the bottom left corner.

Burkina Faso struggled to respond and were punished again late in the match. In the 87th minute, Bazoumana Touré completed the scoring with a left-footed shot following a fast break, placing the ball into the bottom left corner. His goal sealed a dominant display by the Ivorian side.

Statistically, Côte d’Ivoire was in full control of the match. They held 58% possession, attempted 20 shots, and created three big chances. Burkina Faso managed 42% possession, nine shots, and failed to register a single big chance. The contrast in expected goals 1.95 for Côte d’Ivoire and just 0.51 for Burkina Faso.

With this result, Côte d’Ivoire continue their perfect run in the tournament, having won all their matches so far. The defending champions will now face Egypt in the quarterfinals on January 10 at 8:00 p.m. at Stade Adrar in Agadir. The macth promises to be one of the tournament’s most anticipated encounters, as two African giants meet with a semifinal spot on the line.
