Rabat– Barid Al-Maghrib and Morocco’s National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP) signed a partnership agreement on Thursday in Rabat, officially enrolling the postal and logistics group in the national DATA-TIKA program.
Launched by the CNDP, DATA-TIKA is a national initiative designed to support public and private organizations in achieving sustainable compliance with Morocco’s Law 09-08 on personal data protection.
The agreement was signed by Amin Benjelloun Touimi, CEO of Barid Al-Maghrib, and Omar Seghrouchni, President of the CNDP. It aims to position personal data protection as a key driver of trust, digital transformation, and competitiveness, reflecting a broader institutional cooperation between the two entities.
DATA-TIKA engagement is structured around three main pillars. The first focuses on strengthening regulatory compliance, supporting Barid Al-Maghrib in aligning with Law 09-08 on the protection of individuals in relation to the processing of personal data. This includes “train-the-trainer” programs and pilot access to the CNDP’s digital notification platform.
The second pillar integrates data protection into strategic and operational projects. It involves workshops to address data usage, sensitive information, IT systems, hosting, and emerging technologies, ensuring privacy considerations are embedded from the design phase.
The third pillar centers on contributing to national guidelines to reinforce digital trust, covering areas such as cloud services, trusted digital services, privacy by design, commercial data use, and innovative data processing.
Benjelloun Touimi says Barid Al-Maghrib is committed to making personal data protection a core part of its digital transformation strategy, as well as its responsibilities for transparency and user rights.
“As a service group in daily contact with millions of citizens, businesses, and institutions, Barid Al-Maghrib has a particular responsibility to protect personal data,” he told MAP, adding that this duty has grown alongside the Group’s digital transformation, service diversification, and adoption of new digital tools.
He asserted that the DATA-TIKA program would enhance the Group’s compliance with Law 09-08, develop staff expertise in personal data protection, and ensure privacy is considered from the earliest stages of all projects. The program also provides a platform to rethink data usage in the context of current technological challenges, including cloud computing, digital trust services, data intelligence, and evolving client relationships.
Omar Seghrouchni welcomed the partnership, noting that Barid Al-Maghrib’s services bring it into close daily contact with citizens, making strong data protection measures crucial. “Data protection generates trust and adds significant value to the services offered by Barid Al-Maghrib,” he said, highlighting the program’s inclusive and integrated approach.
