Rabat – The OCP Foundation, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) signed on Tuesday a partnership agreement with the Ministries of Agriculture and Economy to support the development of Morocco’s agriculture sector.
The partnership aims to leverage research, innovation, and skills development to serve sustainable agriculture adapted to economic, social, and environmental constraints.
A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture said the partnership is within the framework of the national agricultural strategy “Generation Green 2020-2030.”
“The agreement specifically seeks to contribute to strengthening the kingdom’s food sovereignty, support public agricultural policies through better utilization of scientific and technological advances,” the statement said.
It also aims to develop operational responses to the effects of climate change through valuing national expertise and reinforcing South-South cooperation.
All parties engaged in the partnership reiterated their commitment toward a more inclusive, innovative Moroccan agriculture that is prepared for future developments.
The collaboration also aims to strengthen experience sharing with other countries on the continent and boost Morocco’s role as a key player in South-South agricultural cooperation.
The themes of the partnerships will include soil health, agricultural resilience to climate change, applied agronomic research, agricultural training, and integrated water management, among others – providing support for agri-tech solutions developed in Morocco.
