Weather Alert Forecasts Strong Wind, Heavy Rainfall in Morocco

Rabat – More rainfall and strong winds are expected on Wednesday and Thursday in several provinces across Morocco, according to a new statement from the country’s weather office.

Heavy rains of 60-100 millimeters are expected in Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Larache, Taounate, and Al Hoceima from Wednesday morning to Thursday 6 p.m, the General Directorate of Meteorology said today.

It added that rainfall of 30 to 60 millimeters is expected in Fahs-Anjra, M’Diq, Fnideq, Tangier, Assilah, and Ouezzane during the same period.

Strong winds between 75 and 95 kilometers per hour will meanwhile affect the regions of Chefchaouen, Berkane, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, and Oujda-Angad on Wednesday morning to Thursday at 6 p.m.

The same weather will affect Nador, Guercif, Driouch, Mdiq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Taourirt, Boulemane, Taza, Moulay Yacou, and Tata.

Ouarzazate, Figuig, Jrada, Ouezzane,  Tangier-Assilah, Taroudant, Tiznit, Sidi Kacem, arache, Taounate, Tinghit, Kenitra, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Midelt, Meknes, Fez and Sefrou also expect the same strong winds today and on Thursday.

This comes as Morocco continues to experience freezing weather marked by heavy rainfall and snow in some remote areas. The weather remarkably revived the country’s water dams and agriculture.

Dams across the country now store nearly 9.2 billion cubic meters of water, raising the overall fill rate to 55.2%.

Earlier this month, Minister of Equipment Nizar Baaka said the recent rainfall helped end seven consecutive years of drought in Morocco.
