Rabat – The Ministry of Energy Transition reassured citizens that Morocco’s supply of petroleum products remains stable and fully under control despite the severe weather conditions.
The ministry said in a statement on Thursday pledged measures in coordination with fuel-sector stakeholders to ensure a stock capable of meeting the national market.
The statement added that the measures include mobilizing all public and private actors to ensure a regular supply of petroleum products to counter the challenges hampering the unloading of ships carrying energy products.
The government pledged efforts to continue monitoring the situation, adding that the national stock now stands at over 617,000 tonnes. For the ministry, this meets the needs of the national market, stressing that over one million additional tonnes of the products are also in the process.
“An inventory has been carried out of fuel facilities, and service stations temporarily closed in certain regions affected by the floods, to avoid any environmental risk and ensure the safety of the ocean,” the ministry acknowledged.
It concluded its statement, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with all sector stakeholders to ensure the market’s supply, with a monitoring unit conducting a comprehensive follow-up of the situation.
The statement came following reports suggesting that gas stations have witnessed shortages of diesel and gasoline in early February due to bad weather conditions and high waves.
The reports alleged the situation prevented cargo ships from docking at major ports like Mohammedia and Tangier, with observers warning of potential shortages ahead of Ramadan.
