Rabat – Moroccan defender Jawad El Yamiq experienced one of the most unforgettable debut performances in La Liga 2 history on Saturday after a roller-coaster night that saw him score for both teams and finish the match with a red card in Real Zaragoza’s 1–1 draw against Eibar.
El Yamiq opened the scoring in the 26th minute, heading home a powerful corner to put Zaragoza ahead and ignite the crowd at Ibercaja Estadio on what was also his first appearance in the club’s colors. The early goal lifted spirits and offered hope to a side battling near the bottom of the table.
But then the mood shifted shortly after halftime. In the 55th minute, El Yamiq inadvertently turned a cross into his own net, allowing Eibar to level the game at 1–1.
Things went from bad to worse in the 93rd minute when the defender was sent off following a heated altercation. Leaving his team with just ten men to close out the game, the red card was the final blow in what had already been a rollercoaster of a match.
Jawad El Yamiq did EVERYTHING in his Zaragoza debut 😭

The result leaves Real Zaragoza with 23 points, struggling in 21st place in the Segunda División, while Eibar sits in 14th with 32 points. Zaragoza’s failure to hold on to a lead will be a disappointment for coach Rubén Sellés, especially after the club introduced several new signings in hopes of turning around a difficult season.
Even with the ups and downs, El Yamiq’s debut is one for the history books. It’s not every day you see a player score the opener, net an own goal, and then get sent off, presenting easily one of the most bizarre sequences we’ve ever seen in Spanish football.
