Rabat – Many countries have announced Wednesday, February 18, as the first day of Ramadan 2026.
Among them are Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Yemen.
The aforementioned countries have sighted the crescent moon for Ramadan earlier today, announcing the moon as visible
Countries like Morocco and others are yet to announce the official date of Ramadan after the crescent moon sighting.
Morocco will sight the crescent moon for Ramadan 2026 on Wednesday.
Astronomers expect Ramadan’s first day to be on Thursday in Morocco.
Egypt already announced Thursday as the first day of Ramadan.
During the holy month, Muslims across the world fast for 29 or 30 days, abstaining from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset. Smoking and intimate activities are also forbidden.
People with chronic diseases with required medication, elderly people, and pregnant women are exempt from fasting. Breastfeeding mothers and travelers are also exempt.
Children who have not reached puberty are also not required to fast during Ramadan.
During iftar, Moroccans serve a variety of food, reflecting the country’s rich culinary heritage.
Harrira soup and Chebakia, the famous Moroccan pastry, top the list of served meals during Ramadan in Morocco.
Savory snacks and sweets during iftar are also common. Some Moroccans often prefer to serve the main course following Taraweeh, extra evening prayers performed following Isha prayers.
Mosques are usually crowded at night, with many worshippers performing the extra prayers.
