Rabat – The Muslim community in Germany will officially observe the first day of Ramadan on Thursday, February 19, according to the Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany (KRM).
“The blessed month of Ramadan begins on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and ends on March 19, 2026,” KRW said. Starting Thursday, Muslims in Germany will fast daily from dawn until sunset.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is considered the most sacred month for Muslims. During this time, Muslims do not eat or drink during daylight hours. They also focus on prayer, charity, and spending time with family. The month is a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and helping those in need.
Germany is home to millions of Muslims from different backgrounds, including Turkish, Arab, Bosnian, and other communities. Many mosques across cities like Berlin, Cologne, and Frankfurt organize special nightly prayers called Taraweeh.Â
Families usually gather for iftar, the meal that breaks the fast at sunset. Popular foods vary depending on cultural traditions.
Because Germany is far north, fasting hours can be long, especially when Ramadan falls in spring or summer. Despite the long days, Muslims continue their work and school schedules while fasting.
However, Ramadan 2026 will be easier in terms of fasting hours, as the sun sets past 5 pm.
At the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid Al Fitr, a joyful holiday marked by prayers, family visits, and festive meals.Â
