Rabat – Morocco’s weather office forecasts strong winds, sandstorms and blowing dust in several provinces across Morocco on Thursday and Friday.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said powerful wind gusts with sandstorms of 90 to 100 kilometers per hour are expected from Thursday morning to Friday 9 a.m. in the provinces of Chtouka-Ait Baha, Taroudant, Tiznit, Tata, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Inzegane Ait Melloul, Guelmim, and Sidi Ifni.
Strong winds blowing dust between 80 and 90 kilometers per hour are expected in the provinces of Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Ouarzazate.
In recent days, Morocco embraced calm weather and rising temperatures across many regions, including in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region.
This comes after at least three months of cold weather marked by heavy rainfall, which caused rising water levels and floods in several cities.
At least 188,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes due to the severe weather, in accordance with a mobilized campaign seeking to safeguard lives amid floods that hit several towns in Larache, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, and Kenitra.
Morocco announced these regions as disaster zones, allocating a budget of MAD 3 billion to assist people that were affected by the floods.
The budget was divided into different segments, including direct stipends to families affected, alongside funds for constructing fully damaged or partially damaged buildings.
It was not until a few weeks ago that Moroccan authorities allowed the evacuees to return home as weather conditions had stabilized. As of today, all residents have arrived safely back to the city Ksar El Kebir, among the hardest hit by the floods.
