Agadir – Morocco’s automotive sector recorded a strong performance in January 2026, with exports reaching over MAD 12.24 billion ($1.34 billion), representing a 19.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to the latest report from the Exchange Office.

This growth highlighted the resilience of the Moroccan automotive industry in the global market, even as overall national exports fell by 2.7% to MAD 34.5 billion ($3.78 billion).

The surge in automotive exports was driven primarily by two key segments. The manufacturing (construction) sector experienced remarkable growth of 60.6%, with exports rising from MAD 2.72 billion ($298 million) in January 2025 to nearly MAD 4.37 billion ($478 million).

Similarly, the cabling (electrical wiring system) segment contributed to the sector’s strong performance, increasing 9.6% to reach MAD 4.96 billion ($543 million). These gains underscore the sector’s ability to meet growing international demand and its capacity for innovation in a rapidly evolving market.

The aviation sector also showed positive momentum, with exports rising 8.7% to exceed MAD  2.43 billion ($266 million). This improvement was supported by a 17.2% increase in the assembly segment, despite a 5.9% decline in the Electrical Wire Interconnection System (EWIS) component.

In contrast, other key sectors faced challenges during the month. Exports of phosphates and their derivatives fell sharply by 43.4%, while agriculture and agro-food products dropped 9.5%. The textile and leather sector declined by 5.9%, and electronics and electricity exports were down 3.8%. These decreases contributed to the overall contraction in Morocco’s exports.

The strong performance of the automotive sector reflects the impact of strategic government initiatives, including investments in infrastructure, incentives for manufacturers, and the development of industrial zones tailored for automotive production.

These measures have positioned Morocco as a key player in the global automotive supply chain, particularly in Europe.

January 2026 demonstrates the automotive industry’s pivotal role in supporting Morocco’s economic growth and export diversification. With sustained investment and growing international demand, the sector is poised for continued expansion, solidifying Morocco’s standing in the global marketplace.
