UM6P To Gather Over 100 Global Experts for 6th Science Week on ‘Convergence(s)’

Rabat – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) will bring back Science Week from March 30 to April 5 for its 6th edition under the theme “Convergence(s).” The event will explore how different scientific fields and technologies are increasingly coming together to reshape the way knowledge is produced and shared.

This year’s theme focuses on the convergence of NBIC technologies, including nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, and cognitive sciences, as well as the growing integration between disciplines, UM6P said in a press release. 

It also highlights how fundamental research is now more closely linked to industrial innovation and regional development.

The 2026 edition will bring together more than 100 leading international scientists and experts.

Among the key speakers is Professor Victor J. Dzau, President of the National Academy of Medicine in the United States. He will share insights on health system governance and biomedical research policies.

Professor Omar M. Yaghi, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and pioneer of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), will discuss how advanced materials can support the global energy and environmental transition.

Meanwhile, Steve Levine, founder of the Living Heart Project, will present developments in digital modeling of living systems and the use of “virtual twins” in medicine and research.

Professor Paula A. Harrison from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology will also take part. As co-chair of the Nexus Assessment of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), she will offer an integrated perspective on the links between biodiversity, climate change, and public policy.

Throughout the week, the program will include plenary conferences, keynote speeches, debates, project presentations, and demonstrations of transdisciplinary initiatives. Discussions will also address the ethical, philosophical, and sociopolitical dimensions of scientific convergence.

The annual flagship event has become one of UM6P’s most important scientific gatherings. Each year, it creates a space for dialogue between researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, and students. It also encourages collaboration across disciplines and sectors. 

The event reflects UM6P’s broader vision of promoting innovation-driven research that responds to global challenges while supporting sustainable development in Morocco and across Africa.
