Rabat—Wydad Athletic Club have confirmed that captain Nordin Amrabat has picked up a muscle injury, casting serious doubt over his availability for the upcoming Clasico against AS FAR.
The club announced the news on Monday through an official statement shared on its social media channels. The injury was sustained during Wydad’s 1–0 victory over Renaissance de Berkane at the Mohammed V Stadium, a valuable result in the Botola Pro title race.
Medical tests carried out the following day confirmed that the 38-year-old winger suffered a muscle tear in his right thigh.
In its statement, the club explained that Amrabat “sustained an injury during yesterday’s match,” and that further examinations confirmed the tear. Wydad also noted that the player will follow a specific treatment and rehabilitation program under the supervision of the team’s medical staff, with the aim of ensuring a full recovery and a return to action as soon as possible.
Wydad did not specify how long Amrabat will be sidelined. However, his participation in Wednesday’s postponed ninth-round clash against AS FAR now appears highly unlikely.

The match is scheduled for March 4 at 23:00 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, an important game between two direct rivals in the title race. Losing their captain at this stage is far from ideal for Wydad, especially with the season entering a decisive stretch.
Despite his age, Amrabat has remained an important part of the squad. This season, he has featured in 15 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Beyond the numbers, his experience and leadership have played a significant role in guiding a squad competing on multiple fronts.
Coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem will now need to adjust his plans ahead of the AS FAR showdown. Whether through tactical changes or squad rotation, Wydad must quickly find solutions in the absence of their captain.
The estimated three-to-four-week recovery timeline means he could be back in time for the decisive stages of the CAF Confederation Cup. Wydad have already qualified for the quarter-finals, and the club hopes their captain can play a role in that continental push.
For now, Wydad remain in a strong position in the Botola Pro standings, but matches like this can determine a season. Without their captain, the team will need to prove they can handle pressure even when one of their leaders is missing.
