Rabat – Morocco will host the first edition of GITEX Future Health Africa from May 4 to May 6, 2026, in Casablanca, bringing together policymakers, healthcare professionals, technology firms, and investors for three days of discussions on the future of healthcare systems across Africa.
Organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, and Kaoun International, the event is expected to attract more than 15,000 visitors from over 30 countries to attend.
Trixie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President of the Dubai World Trade Centre and CEO of Kaoun International, described the event as a turning point for the sector. “The launch of GITEX Future Health in Morocco marks a strategic milestone in the evolution of African healthcare systems,” she said.
More than 300 exhibitors representing healthcare and technology companies are expected, along with around 200 startups presenting new digital health solutions. The conference will also feature more than 100 government and industry speakers across more than 15 hours of programming. Around 50 international investors are expected to be present.
For three days, Casablanca will host policy discussions, technical forums, and a large exhibition space focused on emerging health technologies. AI, telemedicine, hospital information systems, and data interoperability are expected to be among the central themes.
The event opens on May 4 with an executive summit focused on financing healthcare systems and strengthening policy coordination across Africa.
Discussions will address the investment gap facing many health systems and examine mechanisms to expand universal health coverage. Participants are also expected to discuss multilateral policy alignment and the use of epidemiological intelligence in public health planning.

Attention will then turn to hospital infrastructure and digital integration during the second day’s Future Hospitals Forum. Sessions will explore how hospitals are evolving into digitally connected systems rather than isolated facilities.
Topics include operational resilience, next-gen hospital design, core digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The program will also address the use of AI in diagnostics and the integration of laboratory technologies, pathology systems, and teleradiology.
The final day will focus on patient-centered care through the Future Care Forum. Speakers will examine integrated care strategies, data governance, and interoperability between health platforms.
Other sessions will address workforce retention, patient experience technologies, and ethical frameworks surrounding the use of AI in healthcare.
Professor Youns Bjijou, Managing Director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, said the challenge goes beyond building hospitals. “Meeting the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing African population cannot be reduced to infrastructure alone,” he said.
Digitizing all patient records by 2030
The event comes as Morocco continues a broad reform of its healthcare system. The country has launched a $2.4 billion expansion of its healthcare sector as part of wider efforts to modernize infrastructure and strengthen medical services.
Authorities aim to digitize all patient records by 2030 and complete nationwide health system integration by 2028. Plans also include upgrading 70 regional hospitals by 2027 while expanding partnerships with international digital health actors.
Health Minister Amine Tehraoui said technology is playing a central role in that transformation. “Technology is a structural lever to improve quality of care, optimize resource allocation, and ensure territorial equity,” he said.
Across the region, healthcare markets are also expanding. In North Africa, the medical devices market is projected to reach $5.08 billion by 2030, while the digital health market is expected to reach $2.33 billion by 2029. In East Africa, the inpatient care market is projected to reach $6.5 billion by 2029 as hospital capacity continues to expand.
Registration for the event is now open on the official website, allowing visitors, students, startups, companies, and organizations interested in exhibiting or attending to sign up and take part in the three-day gathering.
