Rabat – Morocco’s weather authorities have issued an orange-level alert as snowfall is expected to affect several provinces from Tuesday morning through Wednesday night.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), snowfall will begin Tuesday at 6 a.m. and continue until Wednesday at 11 p.m., particularly in mountainous areas above 1,400 meters.

The forecast indicates heavy snowfall ranging between 20 and 40 centimeters in the provinces of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, and Boulemane.

During the same period, lighter snowfall between 10 and 20 centimeters is expected in several other provinces, including Al Haouz, Taza, Chefchaouen, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Figuig, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, and Guercif.

Authorities often issue such alerts during winter months as snow frequently affects mountainous regions across Morocco, especially in the Middle Atlas and High Atlas ranges.

Residents and travelers in these areas may experience difficult road conditions as snowfall accumulates, and should exercise caution during the alert period.

Non-essential travel should be avoided, especially on high-altitude roads where snow accumulation and reduced visibility can make driving difficult.

Those who must travel are advised to check weather updates regularly and ensure their vehicles are equipped for winter conditions. Precautions against cold temperatures also remain necessary as snowfall continues through Wednesday.
