Rabat – Morocco has taken part in the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), which opened Monday in New York.
The Moroccan delegation is led by Naima Ben Yahia, Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family.
The opening ceremony drew high-level officials, including Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Mohammed Dardouri, National Coordinator of the Initiative for Human Development (INDH), alongside senior UN representatives.
The Moroccan delegation brought together voices from government ministries, national institutions, both parliamentary chambers, and civil society, reflecting a wide-ranging commitment to gender equality.
This year’s session focuses on guaranteeing and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls through fair and inclusive legal systems while eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers.
Delegates will examine how legal gaps affect women’s everyday lives and explore solutions to ensure justice.

The conference also emphasizes the need to champion and deepen women’s full participation in decision-making and efforts to fight violence, saying this is a critical step to achieving gender equality and empowerment.
The UN Commission on the Status of Women, a key intergovernmental body under the Economic and Social Council, has served since 1946 as a global platform to shape policies and frameworks that promote women’s rights.
As part of Morocco’s participation, the delegation will host a parallel session today led by Minister Ben Yahia.
The discussion, titled “Access to Justice for Women Victims of Violence: A Lever to Strengthen Rights and Inclusive Development,” will focus on improving legal protection and practical access to justice for women who face violence, aligning with CSW70’s core objectives.
Morocco has made progress in advancing women’s rights over the past years, introducing reforms that strengthen legal protections and create more opportunities for women in public, economic, and social life.
Efforts to combat gender-based violence, improve family law, and support education and professional participation have opened new avenues for empowerment.
Still, many women encounter challenges in accessing justice and asserting their rights, showing that progress remains uneven and work continues on the ground.
