Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2026 is predicted to fall on Friday, March 20, in the United Arab Emirates, according to astronomical calculations by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society.

The prediction suggests Ramadan will likely last 29 days, leading to the first day of Shawwal, and therefore Eid Al Fitr, on March 20. However, the exact date will only be officially confirmed by the UAE’s moon-sighting committee shortly before the end of Ramadan.

The UAE already announced public and private sector holidays for the Eid Al Fitr holiday. Public sector entities will be on holiday between March 19 and 22, while private sector employees will be on holiday between March 19 and 21.

Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar. The holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the month during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset as an act of worship, reflection, and self-discipline.

On the morning of Eid, Muslims gather in mosques or large open prayer areas for the special Eid prayer, which is usually held shortly after sunrise. The religious holiday also emphasizes charity, with Muslims giving Zakat Al Fitr, a form of alms intended to help those in need celebrate the holiday.

Eid Al Fitr in the UAE is celebrated with vibrant traditions that blend Islamic practices with local culture. Families typically begin the day with prayers before visiting relatives and friends. They exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak,” and share festive meals. Traditional Emirati dishes, sweets, and dates are commonly served during gatherings.

Cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi also host public celebrations, including fireworks displays, shopping promotions, and cultural events. Many residents take advantage of the holiday to travel or spend time with loved ones.

However, since the outbreak of the US-Iran-Israel war, Dubai has been under fire from Iranian airstrikes. For this reason, the Global Village and the World of Riverland in Dubai firework shows will be canceled, among other public demonstrations as authorities continue to monitor developments to ensure safety of its citizens.
