Rabat – The United Arab Emirates has officially announced that Friday, March 20, will mark the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the country, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The UAE already announced public and private sector holidays for the Eid Al Fitr holiday. Public sector entities will be on holiday between March 19 and 22, while private sector employees will be on holiday between March 19 and 21.
Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important religious holidays in Islam. It comes after a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection during Ramadan. Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset, and focus instead on spiritual growth, charity, and self-discipline.
Eid is a time to celebrate the completion of this period and to express gratitude.
The day of Eid typically begins with a special prayer held in mosques or large open spaces. Families gather early in the morning, often wearing new or traditional clothes, and greet each other with warm wishes.
A key part of the celebration is giving to those in need, known as Zakat Al Fitr, to ensure that everyone can take part in the holiday.
Throughout the day, people visit relatives and friends, share meals, and exchange gifts. Traditional dishes and sweets are prepared, and there is a strong sense of community and togetherness.
It is also a time to rest and enjoy a break from daily routines for many people.
However, this year’s Ramadan has been marked by the ongoing war in the Middle East, with the US and Israel continuing their attacks on Iran, and the latter launching retaliatory attacks on Israel and strategic locations in the Gulf, including the UAE.
