Agadir – Morocco is to host the 58th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference, as well as the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development (CoM 2026).
According to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the conference represents one of the most prominent opportunities for dialogue on the economic agenda of the African continent.
The gathering will be hosted at the Palace of Arts and Culture in Tangier and will run from March 28 to April 3. further solidifying Morocco’s role as a key location in the region for international dialogue and cooperation.
This year’s edition is organized jointly by the UNECA and Morocco, bringing together high-level policymakers, including finance ministers, central bank governors and other economic stakeholders from the African continent.
The 2026 session is centered around a theme of “Growth through Innovation: Harnessing Data and Advanced Technologies to Serve Africa’s Economic Transformation.”
Organizers assert this reflects Africa’s focus on digital transformation and using data and tech as key drivers of economic growth.
The Conference of Finance Ministers creates a framework for African leaders to share views on economic planning, financial policies, and development strategies.
It also helps to establish a platform for discussions on how to improve national policies to align them with the overall interests of the continent. With the rising global uncertainties, the discussions will help to establish ways of improving economic stability and development.
The previous edition of the conference CoM 2025 addressed several collective challenges in the continent. These include the need to improve digitalization and technology infrastructure, food security systems, energy sustainability, industrialization and the development of value chains in the regions, as well as trade facilitation and the reduction of barriers in intra-African trade.
