Tarik Sektioui has officially been appointed head coach of the Oman national football team today, entering a new chapter in his career after a remarkable period with Morocco’s national teams.
The move comes just one day after he submitted his resignation to the Royal Marocan Football Federation, bringing an end to a very successful stunt at home. It will also be his first experience managing a senior national team abroad, adding a new dimension to his coaching journey.
Sektioui replaces Carlos Queiroz, whose contract was mutually terminated by the Oman Football Association following a disappointing spell that ended with failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

A new challenge
Sektioui arrives in Oman with serious credentials built over the past 18 months. Working with Morocco’s local and Olympic sides, he led the country to a series of standout achievements: a historic bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, victory at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2024, and triumph at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.
Those results strengthened his reputation and prove his ability to manage tournaments and develop competitive, well-organized teams. He also made history by becoming one of the few Moroccans to win a continental title both as a player and as a coach, having previously lifted the U20 AFCON in 1997 during his playing days.
Now, the challenge is very different.
Oman is looking to rebuild after recent setbacks, and Sektioui’s main task will be to reshape the technical staff and guide the team toward upcoming international competitions. There is an expectation that he will bring structure, discipline, and a clear identity, qualities that defined his work with Morocco.
For Sektioui, this is an opportunity to prove that his success at home can translate onto the senior international stage abroad.
