Rabat – President of Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa has said Morocco is fully prepared to defend its AFCON 2025 title at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, insisting that both the facts and the law support the country’s position.
Speaking to Moroccan news outlet Al3omk, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation said the file presented by Morocco is complete and built on solid evidence.
“Morocco has strong and documented arguments regarding what happened in the final,” Lekjaa said. “All elements of the incident were recorded precisely, through official reports and video footage, in full respect of the regulations.”
The dispute centers on the AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal, where CAF later ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match. The decision relied on Articles 82 and 84, which apply when a team leaves the field or refuses to continue play.
Lekjaa added, “The withdrawal of the Senegal team is officially established,” he said, referring to the referee’s report and video evidence showing the moment players left the pitch.
This combination of reports and recordings strengthens Morocco’s position before CAS, where the case now moves.
Lekjaa also explained why Morocco continued the match after Senegal returned.
“Morocco had to accept the resumption of the game,” he said. “Refusing to continue would have exposed us to the same sanctions under the regulations.”
That decision, he added, followed the rules rather than choice. It ensured Morocco stayed within the legal framework while the situation unfolded.
