Agadir – A court in Paris has cleared French national Laura Prioul of charges related to an alleged attempt to blackmail Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, concluding that the evidence was insufficient to prove her intent to seek financial gain for altering her testimony.

The case centered on claims that Prioul had sought up to €3 million between late 2024 and mid-2025 in return for withdrawing statements or not appearing at appeal hearings tied to the ongoing rape case against Lamjarred in France.

The trial entered a critical phase when Lamjarred filed an extortion complaint and reopened discussions for further questioning.

The court ruled that the prosecution failed to demonstrate a clear intention on Prioul’s part to use her testimony as leverage, leading to her full acquittal.

The trial has been marked by internal disputes and shifting accusations. During earlier hearings, the main suspect reportedly filed a complaint against her own lawyer, accusing her of breach of trust. In response, the lawyer suggested that another individual played a central role in orchestrating the alleged scheme.

The court however found five of the six individuals prosecuted in the same case were guilty. The sentences handed down ranged from six months suspended prison terms to one year in prison. One defendant was acquitted of all charges.

Those convicted include Prioul’s mother, a friend, and a lawyer. The court determined that their involvement contributed to an attempt to carry out an extortion scheme, with differing levels of responsibility assigned to each.

The heaviest sentence was issued against the lawyer registered with the Paris Bar, who received a two-year suspended prison sentence along with an immediate 10-year ban from practicing law.
