At a press conference held yesterday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale, Fathi Jamal, the National Technical Director, laid out the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s (FRMF) plan for the future and explained the role now entrusted to Mohamed Ouahbi.

The message was about building continuity after the new coaching appointment.

Jamal explained that since 2022, Moroccan football has been going through a major transformation, driven by a clear strategy focused on development, performance, and innovation. The idea is to create a system where players are supported from a young age all the way to the senior national team.

In that structure, Mohamed Ouahbi now takes on the responsibility of leading the Atlas Lions, while working closely with the DTN’s technical and performance departments.

His mission goes beyond preparing matches. He and his staff are expected to closely monitor all players eligible for selection, especially Moroccan professionals playing abroad. This includes regular contact with club coaches and medical teams to keep track of players’ fitness, form, and progress.

The goal is to make sure there is a smooth link between the youth national teams and the senior side, so that talented players can move naturally through the system.

Jamal also spoke about the federation’s long-term development project, which places the player at the center of everything.

From grassroots football to elite competition, the goal is to guide players step by step through every age category. This is supported by a national youth development program launched in partnership with EVO SPORT, using a modern methodology recognized by FIFA.

Another big focus is the use of technology and performance data. Specialized units for video analysis and data tracking are now part of the setup, helping technical staff make better decisions and monitor players more precisely.

Jamal also pointed to the importance of strengthening youth competitions inside Morocco, and that young players need regular, high-level matches to continue progressing.

More than anything, the federation’s ambition is to remain competitive internationally, but at the same time to make Morocco a reference in football development in the world.

With Ouahbi, the focus is now on building a model that lasts well beyond the next tournament.
