Rabat – Lionel Messi’s return marks a pivotal moment for the Florida club as the Argentine captain steps back into official competition. Head coach Guillermo Hoyos confirmed that the forward appears composed and focused after rejoining team activities in Miami.
The football legend lost his father and long-time representative, Jorge Messi, who died at age 68 on August 8, in Rosario, Argentina. Following a brief period of absence to attend private memorial services alongside his family, the forward returned to North America to rejoin his teammates.
Speaking to reporters ahead of upcoming league fixtures, Hoyos expressed complete confidence in his captain’s mindset during training sessions.
“He looks good, expressing himself on the pitch, a place he knows to perfection, and at peace,” said head coach Guillermo Hoyos during Tuesday’s press conference.
The Argentine star made his first appearance since the tragedy as a second-half substitute against Mexican side Club León in the Leagues Cup. He later started and played the full 90 minutes in a Major League Soccer match against Nashville SC, contributing a goal assist.
Inter Miami midfielder Casemiro commended the veteran forward for showing exceptional professionalism and dedication during a difficult moment for his family.
“He sets a great example. He is surely going through a very difficult time, but the commitment he has shown to the players and the club has been incredible,” Casemiro stated following recent match play.
The Inter Miami Lionel Messi return provides crucial leadership as the team aims to secure playoff positioning and push for silverware in the remaining weeks of the regular season.
