Morocco Prepares Launch of Foreign Trade Procedures Portal to Boost Competitiveness

The meeting for the upcoming launch of the Moroccan portal for foreign trade procedures.

Agadir – Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade in charge of Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira held a meeting on Friday to lay the groundwork for the upcoming launch of the Moroccan portal for foreign trade procedures.

The session brought together key public and private sector stakeholders involved in foreign trade operations, including  representatives of major professional organizations such as the Moroccan Confederation of Exporters (ASMEX) and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).

“Next month will mark the launch of a unified export portal, developed over the past year and a half through more than 60 coordination meetings,” Hejira announced during the session of the Council of Councillors on Tuesday.

The meeting highlighted the coordination between institutions and private sector stakeholders to advance digital transformation in foreign trade procedures.

This initiative is set to accelerate the adaptation of digital tools into foreign trade procedures to maintain Morocco’s position in international markets.

This measure would boost national competitiveness, improve efficiency, reduce delays, and enhance the overall business environment.

“If Morocco does not align with international trends, it can not remain competitive. Digitalization is no longer optional or merely decorative, it is essential. Without it, accessing global markets becomes extremely difficult,” Hejira said at the Council of Councillors session.

This means Morocco places digitization at the heart of foreign trade. Procedures like import licensing, inspection processes for industrial and food products, customs integration, electronic payments, and advance cargo declarations can be conducted online.

This new portal is expected to expand its scope, with more than 120 services digitalized and 50 public and private institutions interconnected. It also covers all Moroccan ports and airports, enabling seamless coordination across the logistics chain.

This new platform is designed to serve as a single entry point for all  foreign trade procedures, with the long-term objective of creating a fully integrated national single-window system.

In parallel, new digital tools are emerging to support businesses. The “Tijaria” platform, “which relies on artificial intelligence, since its launch about a year ago, has registered around 875 users and has been used by more than 500 importers as well as exporters.”

The platform facilitates access to trade-related information and is expanding its services to include remote training for beginner exporters.
