Rabat – Former Portuguese international and Real Madrid legend Luís Figo has voiced concern over Real Madrid’s failure to win a major trophy in the past two seasons, describing the situation as unusual for a club of their stature.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Figo noted that the constant noise surrounding Madrid is amplified when results fall short.

“Everyone knows the kind of season Madrid had. When coaches change, the team becomes unstable and people start looking for someone to blame,” he said. “For one of the best clubs in the world, going two years without a title is worrying.”

Figo, who played for Madrid between 2000 and 2005, admitted the drought feels strange given the club’s tradition of success.

“Madrid are used to winning. Of course, you cannot win all the time; that would be too predictable. Other teams also have ambitions. But at Madrid, the noise is always louder,” he explained. “Now people will talk about the coach, who is at fault, and other issues that are not discussed inside the dressing room.”

The former Ballon d’Or winner also commented on speculation about possible successors to Alvaro Arbeloa, who is under pressure after Madrid’s Champions League exit.

Among the names linked to the Madrid coaching seat are Jose Mourinho, currently at Benfica, and France manager Didier Deschamps.

Figo praised Deschamps, saying he has the qualities to lead a club like Madrid. “He has the experience and personality to manage any team, including in Spain,” Figo explained.

Figo also expressed his personal wish to see Atlético Madrid win the Champions League. He said such a triumph would be significant for Spanish football and a reward for Atlético’s persistence in Europe.

Madrid’s current situation has sparked debate across Spain. The club has not gone two consecutive seasons without silverware since the early 2000s, and questions about leadership, squad balance, and future direction dominate headlines.
