Casablanca – Train traffic to Marrakech will be fully suspended for nearly two days this week as work continues on Morocco’s high-speed rail expansion.

In a statement, the National Office of Railways (ONCF) said no trains will serve Marrakech station from Tuesday April 21 at 9 p.m. until Thursday April 23, 2026 at 11 p.m. The disruption is linked to a new phase of works on the planned high-speed line connecting Kénitra to Marrakech.

The works will directly affect traffic on the Marrakech–Sidi Brahim section. During this period, all train departures and arrivals will be limited to Sidi Brahim station instead of reaching the city.

To keep passengers moving, the operator is setting up replacement buses between Sidi Brahim and Marrakech. Travelers leaving Marrakech will need to take buses that depart one hour earlier than usual to match train times from Sidi Brahim. In the opposite direction, buses will be available at Sidi Brahim to carry passengers into Marrakech.

ONCF says teams will be deployed on the ground, especially in affected stations, to guide passengers and manage the flow during the disruption. Travelers are being advised to check updates through ONCF Voyages, the mobile app, customer service, or station displays.

Normal train service to and from Marrakech is expected to resume on Friday April 24.

The interruption is the latest in a series of disruptions tied to ongoing rail upgrades across the country. Over the past months, passengers have had to navigate repeated schedule changes, delays, and partial service suspensions as infrastructure works accelerate, particularly around Casablanca and along key southern routes.

While the long-term goal is clear, a faster and more modern network, the short-term reality has been less smooth. Regular users have voiced frustration over unpredictability, longer journeys, and last-minute adjustments. For many, especially those commuting or traveling for work, the temporary fixes like bus transfers add time and friction to already tight schedules.
