Agadir – The World Agriculture Forum (WAF) launched last month its Morocco Country Council, “World Agriculture Forum Morocco,” during the International Agriculture Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), a major annual gathering for the agricultural sector in Africa.

The announcement was made on April 28 in Meknes, in the presence of WAF Executive Director MJ Khan and Faissal Sehbaoui, Regional Director of WAF Morocco, alongside members representing various segments of Morocco’s agricultural ecosystem.

The launch was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalizing the establishment of the Moroccan council as part of the WAF’s global network.

The agreement sets the foundation for a structured framework aimed at fostering strategic dialogue and cooperation on key agricultural challenges at both national and international levels.

According to a press statement shared with Morocco World News (MWN), WAF Morocco aims to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including public decision-makers, farmers, cooperatives, agribusiness operators, financial institutions, researchers, innovation centers, and development partners.

As part of the broader WAF international network, the Moroccan council is expected to contribute to aligning national agricultural priorities with global trends, while promoting the country’s specific strengths and potential.

Morocco’s ‘strategic role’ in global food sustainability

Speaking at the launch, MJ Khan said the initiative reflects WAF’s commitment to enhancing global collaboration through stronger national platforms, highlighting Morocco’s strategic role in shaping the future of agriculture in Africa and beyond.

“The launch of the World Agriculture Forum Morocco reflects our commitment to enhancing global collaboration by strengthening national platforms. Morocco plays a strategic role in the future development of agriculture in Africa and beyond,” Khan said.

Faissal Sehbaoui described the creation of WAF Morocco as a key step toward building a national platform capable of connecting stakeholders and accelerating the transition toward more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.

“The creation of the WAF Morocco branch marks a key step in structuring a national platform that connects stakeholders and accelerates the transition toward sustainable and resilient agricultural systems,” he explained.

With this initiative, Morocco seeks to reinforce its position as a key agricultural player in Africa and the Mediterranean region, while contributing to broader global efforts focused on food security and sustainability.
