Fez – The coastal city of Essaouira will host the 8th International Argan Congress from May 8 to 10, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss the development of argan ecosystems and production.
The event is organized by the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and the Argan Tree (ANDZOA) in partnership with the National Institute for Agricultural Research, the National Agency for Water and Forests, and the Interprofessional Federation of the Argan Sector.
Around 500 participants are expected, including scientists, institutional actors, and sector professionals from Morocco and abroad.
Held under the theme “From Argan Forest to Argan Cultivation: the Argan Tree as a Pillar of Water Resilience for Ecosystems, Territories and Communities,” the congress will highlight recent scientific advances and innovations aimed at improving the sustainable management and integrated development of the argan ecosystem.
The program features nearly 120 original research presentations, reflecting growing international interest in the sector.
Discussions will address key issues such as the argan ecosystem, developments in cultivation and biotechnology, the valorization of argan-based products, and the socio-economic and environmental dimensions of the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve.
Through this edition, the congress confirms its role as a leading international platform for exchange and forward-looking discussion.
It also supports the continued development of the sector within the framework of Morocco’s “Generation Green” strategy, which focuses on strengthening agricultural sustainability and rural development.
Held every two years, the International Argan Congress has become a global reference point for argan research and policy, helping shape long-term approaches that balance innovation, ecosystem preservation, and socio-economic development.
