Rabat – France has joined the US in condemning Polisario’s recent attacks targeting Morocco’s security and stability in the southern province of Es-Semara.
The French embassy in Morocco conveyed France’s condemnation statement on Thursday, stating that such attacks threaten regional stability and jeopardize the negotiation process initiated following the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797 of October 2025.
“France calls on the Polisario Front to respect the ceasefire and the aforementioned resolution,” the statement reads, recalling Paris’ support for the UN-led political process and negotiation efforts aimed at ending the Western Sahara dispute.
Earlier this week, Polisario claimed responsibility for an attack involving three projectiles targeting Es-Semara.
One woman was injured and taken to the hospital. Authorities denied any significant material damage.
Beyond condemnation, France recalled its unwavering support for the Autonomy Plan as the only feasible pathway to ensure a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable peace to which all parties must commit.
“For France, it remains the only basis for achieving such a solution,” the statement concluded, calling on peacekeeping operation MINURSO to shed full light on the attacks in coordination with the Moroccan authorities.
“In this difficult context, France commends the work carried out by MINURSO,” the statement added.
The US shared similar concerns on Thursday, condemning Polisario’s ongoing threats to regional stability, following reports confirming the new terrorist attacks by the separatist group backed by Algeria’s regime against Morocco’s southern province of Es-Semara.
The US mission to the UN said Polisario’s actions are inconsistent with US-facilitated dialogue aimed at bringing the parties together to reach a mutually acceptable and agreed-upon solution to the Western Sahara dispute.
“The time to end this 50-year-old dispute is now,” the mission wrote.
The international condemnations come amid reports and appeals urging the international community to take serious measures against the separatist group, alerting about its collusion with Iranian proxy Hezbollah and its malicious activities, including drug trafficking, among others.
One report also indicates Polisario’s involvement in the armed attacks that targeted Mali recently.
Two congressional bills are calling on the US to designate Polisario as a terrorist group.
