Rabat – FIFA has released its latest Futsal World Rankings, confirming the Moroccan national team’s ascent as a global powerhouse.
The Atlas Lions now occupy sixth place worldwide, maintaining their dominant position as the number one team in both Africa and the Arab world.
According to the official standings, Morocco has secured 1,486.53 points, trailing only the world’s most elite programs. Brazil continues to lead the global rankings with 1,684.97 points, followed by Portugal (1,575.32), Spain (1,574.39), and Argentina, which holds fourth place with 1,513.38 points.
Under the leadership of head coach Hicham Dguig, the team’s trajectory has been defined by a historic run in the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup. One of their most celebrated victories occurred in the Round of 16 against Iran, where a thrilling 4-3 win signaled Morocco’s arrival as a legitimate title contender.
Beyond official tournaments, the Atlas Lions have proven their mettle in high-stakes friendly matches. Their 3-2 victory over Argentina in 2023 remains a fan favorite, defeating a team of such stature and former world champions and perennial finalists, which sends a clear message to the international community that Morocco can compete with and overcome the very best in the sport.
