The 2026 FIFA World Cup will break tradition with a historic format. For the first time, the tournament will feature three separate opening ceremonies, one in each of the host countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
2026 FIFA World Cup organizers confirmed that each ceremony will take place just before the opening match in that country, with a shared narrative linking all three events around the World Cup trophy itself.
Mexico: June 11, 2026 – Estadio Azteca, Mexico City
The first ceremony will take place at the iconic Estadio Azteca, ahead of Mexico’s opening match against South Africa.
The show will center around Mexican heritage, especially the traditional “papel picado” art style. The lineup of performers includes Maná, J Balvin, Alejandro Fernández, and Belinda. Match kickoff: Mexico vs. South Africa
Canada: June 12, 2026 – Toronto
The second ceremony will be held at BMO Field in Toronto before Canada faces Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This segment will focus on cultural diversity and multicultural identity. Artists announced include Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and Nora Fatehi. Match kickoff: Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina
United States: June 12, 2026 – Los Angeles
The third opening ceremony will take place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, ahead of the United States’ match against Paraguay.
This show is designed as a large-scale entertainment event under the theme “A Shared Heartbeat,” with international music stars including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA (BLACKPINK), Rema, and Tyla.
Each ceremony will begin roughly 90 minutes before kickoff, marking a coordinated but geographically split global launch of the tournament.
FIFA has described the concept as a way to reflect the scale of the competition and the three-host structure of the 2026 edition, which is the first World Cup to be jointly organized by three nations.
Additional celebrations are also planned on July 4 in Philadelphia and Houston to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
