Casablanca — Morocco and Korea are moving closer to what could become a broader economic partnership, with Rabat looking to diversify its international alliances and strengthen its position in global industrial supply chains.
The discussion gained momentum after the Korean Ambassador to Morocco, Yoon Yeonjean, said the two countries have complementary economies and growing opportunities for cooperation in strategic sectors.
Speaking in an interview with SNRTnews, the diplomat said Morocco is becoming an increasingly important platform linking Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic, while Korea is seeking reliable industrial and commercial partners abroad.
According to the ambassador, the partnership could go beyond traditional trade. He pointed to sectors such as electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, automotive manufacturing, electronics, and technology transfer.
Morocco has spent the last two decades developing industrial zones and modern transport infrastructure, including the Tanger Med port, now considered one of the largest logistics hubs in the Mediterranean and Africa. Korea views that position as a major advantage for companies seeking to access European and African markets simultaneously.

The ambassador also said Morocco’s political stability and its network of free trade agreements make the country attractive for Korean investors. Several Korean companies are already active in Morocco, particularly in the automotive and electronics sectors.
Trade between the two countries remains relatively modest but has been growing steadily. Moroccan exports to Korea include phosphate products and some industrial goods, while imports are dominated by vehicles, machinery, electronic equipment, and chemical products.
The Korean diplomat also mentioned the possibility of a free trade agreement. Such a deal could help reduce customs barriers and encourage more investment flows between the two countries, Yoon Yeonjean said, adding that discussions are still at an early stage.
Korea has also shown interest in Morocco’s ambitions in clean energy and battery manufacturing. Morocco holds one of the world’s largest phosphate reserves, a key element in battery production, while Korea is home to major battery and technology companies.
For Rabat, the partnership fits into a broader strategy of attracting high-value industries and positioning the country as a regional industrial hub. For Seoul, Morocco offers a gateway into African and European markets at a time when companies are trying to reorganize supply chains and reduce dependence on a limited number of production centers.
