Rabat – Travel platform The Traveler has outlined Morocco’s assets as a resilient and attractive tourism destination amid ongoing regional challenges.
In a recent report, the international travel-focused website described Morocco as one of the “world’s fastest-rising tourism destinations” as the crisis in the Middle East urges travelers to reroute away from conflict-affected regions.
For the Traveler, Morocco joins European destinations and beyond in attracting tourists who once chose Gulf hubs as their tourist destinations.
“[Morocco is] joining destinations such as Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Japan and Thailand in capturing demand once flowing to Gulf hubs,” the same source adds.
Morocco’s tourism sector has been booming, with indicators showing the country is achieving results that exceed official expectations.
In 2025, Morocco attracted nearly 20 million tourists, a milestone described by tourism authorities as a significant achievement.
The Traveler recalled that Morocco also welcomed about 17.4 million visitors in 2024, which represents a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
“International rankings place the country among the top performers worldwide for the speed and scale of its recovery; with arrivals in 2024 already exceeding many conservative forecasts for 2026,” the report added.
The growth is backed by major investments in infrastructure, including airport upgrades, as Morocco prepares to host several prestigious events, including the 2030 World Cup, along with Spain and Portugal.
The tourism sector also contributes to Morocco’s employment. According to data from the High Commission for Planning, the tourism sector supported 894,000 direct jobs in 2025, surpassing employment targets set under the country’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap.
The sector created 92,000 new direct jobs over the past three years. This exceeds the roadmap’s objective of generating 80,000 additional positions by 2026, reaching the target ahead of schedule.
UN data from earlier this year placed Morocco at the forefront of Africa’s tourism recovery in 2025. It identified Morocco as the most popular destination, with positive results, among other world-renowned locations such as Brazil and Egypt.
Morocco reported solid growth in arrivals during the first 10 to 12 months of last year, with 19% increase compared to 2024. This means Morocco continues to outpace Egypt, whose arrivals increased by 17%.
