Agadir – Morocco’s Minister in charge of Investment and Evaluation of Public Policies, Karim Zidane, held discussions with representatives of the Moroccan business community residing in Rwanda during a gathering organized by the Embassy of Morocco in Kigali.
The meeting took place ahead of Zidane’s participation in the Africa CEO Forum 2026, a major continental platform that brings together public and private sector leaders to discuss investment, economic integration, and development strategies across Africa.
According to a statement shared by the minister, the gathering underlined the growing role of Moroccan expertise and companies in strengthening the country’s economic presence in East Africa.
“The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the role played by Moroccan expertise and companies in strengthening the Kingdom’s economic presence in East Africa and in promoting the image of a Morocco that is open, innovative, and committed to South-South cooperation,” Zidane said.
The minister also emphasized the performance of Moroccan firms operating in Rwanda, particularly in the banking, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors, noting their contribution to reinforcing economic ties between Rabat and Kigali and building “high value-added partnerships.”
He further reaffirmed “the country’s commitment, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI,” to supporting Moroccans living abroad and strengthening their connection with Morocco.
As part of his visit, Zidane also conducted a field visit to the Moroccan industrial unit Cooper Pharma West Africa Ltd. It is a pharmaceutical manufacturing and trading company operating in Rwanda, linked to the Moroccan Cooper Pharma group.
The unit is part of Morocco’s broader push to develop pharmaceutical and industrial footprints in East Africa.
Over the past two decades, Moroccan companies, particularly in banking, telecommunications, insurance, and industry, have steadily expanded their footprint across West, Central, and East Africa.
These efforts were recently highlighted by Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, during the Africa Forward Summit, where he expressed the country’s interest and commitment to invest across the continent.
Akhannouch also described the summit as an opportunity to “discuss and exchange on the future prospects of investment. It also gave us the chance to present Morocco’s vision regarding investment in the African continent and to showcase its experience in this field.”
