Rabat – Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has defended Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, saying that the recent situation involving the winger was nothing more than a misunderstanding.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, September 17, Ouahbi rejected any suggestion that the incident raised questions about Ezzalzouli’s patriotism or commitment to the national team.
“Ezzalzouli’s situation involved only a misunderstanding. No one can question his patriotism,” Ouahbi said in response to a journalist’s question.
The coach stressed that Ezzalzouli remains an important member of the Moroccan national team and that the incident should not be given greater significance than it deserves.

Ouahbi also highlighted the importance of communication and trust between players and the national team. He explained that situations of this nature can be resolved through dialogue, without allowing speculation to fuel unnecessary controversy around players.
Ezzalzouli remains part of Morocco’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho.
The Atlas Lions will host Gabon on September 25 before travelling to South Africa to face Lesotho on September 29.
