Yassine Gessime shared a video on Instagram on Monday looking back on a season that completely changed the trajectory of his career. But while the post itself focused on reflection, it was a comment from Achraf Hakimi that quickly stole attention and sent Atlas Lions fans into speculation mode.
Under the post, Hakimi left a simple message: “It’s not finished.”
Fans immediately started wondering whether the Paris Saint-Germain full-back was hinting at something bigger. Perhaps a surprise inclusion for Yassine in Morocco’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup? With coach Mohamed Ouahbi expected to reveal his list on May 26, fans quickly started putting pieces together.
The timing also explains why people reacted so strongly. Yassine has just wrapped up a season that seemed to accelerate month after month. He climbed from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1, helped Morocco win the U-20 World Cup, earned his first senior call-up with the Atlas Lions, and completed a move to RC Strasbourg.
And beyond Yassine’s talent, there is another reason the comment has captured attention in Morocco: his relationship with Hakimi.

During Morocco’s friendlies against Paraguay and Ecuador in March, the understanding between the two on the right side immediately stood out. Their combination play was widely praised, with many viewers noticing just how naturally the pair connected on the pitch.
Hakimi has also reportedly taken on a mentor role away from the pitch, helping Yassine settle into life with the senior national team and easing his integration into the Atlas Lions dressing room.
Maybe it was simply encouragement from a fellow older Moroccan teammate. Maybe it was nothing more than support after a memorable season. Or maybe fans saw something in those three words because they want to believe there is still one more chapter to come.
All will be revealed on May 26 when Morocco unveils its World Cup squad.
