Rabat – Raja Club Athletic coach Fadlu Davids has issued a warning to Mamelodi Sundowns before the decisive second leg of the CAF Champions League final against ASFAR this weekend in Rabat.
Sundowns hold a narrow 1‑0 advantage after the first leg played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. The South African side is chasing back‑to‑back finals, while ASFAR return to this stage for the first time since 1986.
Domestically, Raja and ASFAR remain close rivals in the Botola Pro League. ASFAR sit second with 40 points from 20 matches, while Raja trail by just one point in third.
The tight race adds extra weight to their continental clash.
Speaking to iDiski Times, Davids acknowledged Sundowns’ quality and experience but stressed the difficulty of playing in Rabat.
“They are an experienced team that has played together for a long time,” he said, noting that Sundowns’ squad has remained largely intact over recent seasons, strengthened by smart signings.
Davids warned that the atmosphere in Morocco will be a major factor. “Playing here in front of their fans is very intimidating. They can be loud. They can make it a very hostile situation,” he explained.
Davids recalled past battles with Sundowns, including when his former club Simba SC competed against them. He emphasized that Sundowns’ structure and depth make them hard to beat, but insisted that the second leg will test their ability to manage pressure away from home.
The decisive second leg will be played on Sunday, May 24, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with kickoff at 8 p.m local time (GMT+1). AS FAR must overturn the 1‑0 deficit to claim the title.
