Rabat – Prince Moulay Rachid chaired, on Friday evening at the Royal Golf Dar Es-Salam in Rabat, the gala dinner marking the 50th edition of the Hassan II Golf Trophy and the 29th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup, organized under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.

The ceremony opened with the arrival of Prince Moulay Rachid at the Royal Golf Dar Es-Salam, where he reviewed a detachment of the Auxiliary Forces that rendered honors before being greeted by senior government and institutional officials.

The gala dinner brought together key figures from the executive, sports administration, and regional governance, reflecting the national significance of the two international golf competitions and their growing role in promoting Morocco’s sporting visibility abroad.

Among those present were Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy Fatim-Zahra Ammor, and Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa, alongside senior representatives of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee and local authorities of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.

The event also gathered executives and organizers of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association, responsible for the management and coordination of the tournaments, which have become fixtures on the international golfing calendar.

A highlight of the evening was the screening of a documentary retracing the history of both competitions, which were created respectively in 1971 and 1993 under the initiative of the late King Hassan II. The film revisited key moments that shaped their evolution into internationally recognized events.

Today, the Hassan II Golf Trophy forms part of the PGA Tour Champions circuit, while the Lalla Meryem Cup is integrated into the Ladies European Tour, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a leading destination for professional golf.

Beyond its sporting dimension, the gala dinner underscored the broader role of these events in strengthening Morocco’s international outreach and supporting the national strategy of promoting sport as a lever for development and soft power.
