Marrakech – Morocco’s Société Fès Région Aménagement awarded the construction contract for the Fès Arena to TGCC SA on May 18. According to converging reports, the Casablanca-based construction firm secured the deal with a bid of over MAD 551 million ($55.1 million), edging out rival SGTM, which had submitted an offer of MAD 571 million ($57.1 million).
Designed by ATP Architectes, the covered multi-sport venue will have a capacity of 6,050 seats, though other sources suggest it could accommodate up to 10,000. Construction is expected to take 16 to 18 months. The scope of work includes structural construction, steel framework, facade, air conditioning systems, and advanced stage equipment.
The arena is designed to host both national and international competitions, including matches for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. It will also serve as a venue for cultural and institutional events.
The project is part of Morocco’s broader infrastructure push ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the kingdom will co-host with Spain and Portugal. Fez itself is a host city for the tournament, with the Fez Grand Stadium undergoing a second phase of expansion set to bring its capacity up to 55,800 seats.

The contract award follows an April 7 decision by the Fez-Meknes regional council, which approved a total investment of over MAD 613 million ($61.3 million) for the arena during an extraordinary session.
The funding is split among four partners: the regional council contributing MAD 193.4 million ($19.3 million), the Ministry of National Education at MAD 270 million ($27 million), the World Cup program at MAD 100 million ($10 million), and the commune of Fez at MAD 50 million ($5 million).
During that same April session, the council also greenlit several other projects. These include a MAD 100 million ($10 million) football training center for MAS de Fès, a MAD 80 million ($8 million) training center for CODM de Meknès, the reconstruction of the Hassan II stadium for MAD 400 million ($40 million), and a new-generation train station in Fez worth MAD 300 million ($30 million).
On May 12, the Fez prefectoral council held its own extraordinary session and approved further details on some of these projects.
It confirmed the Hassan II stadium reconstruction at MAD 400 million ($40 million), with funding from the Ministry of National Education at MAD 150 million ($15 million), the FRMF at MAD 200 million ($20 million), and the commune of Fez at MAD 45 million ($4.5 million). The rebuilt stadium will seat 15,000 spectators.
The prefectoral council also approved the MAS training center and a MAD 6.55 million ($655,000) program for the rehabilitation of historical sites in Fez, including the Souk Rsif, the Kasbah Dar Dbibagh, and sections of the city’s historic ramparts.
