Rabat – Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit announced on Tuesday the launch of an “urgent” action plan aiming to prepare Fez to host high-stakes and globally anticipated football matches and accompanying events during the 2030 World Cup.
Speaking at a meeting in Fez, Laftit emphasized the need for an innovative approach to the plan, which will cover all material, logistical, and infrastructure requirements set forth by FIFA.
The meeting was also attended by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“We must adopt a fresh perspective in designing this action plan, focusing on all necessary aspects in compliance with FIFA’s standards,” Laftit stated, stressing that his ministry is fully committed to providing all the necessary resources to fast-track the plan’s implementation.
He highlighted the need to implement the plan on schedule, describing this project as an opportunity to resolve or look into some of the most essential transportation, accommodation, connectivity, and sports infrastructure projects or challenges in Fez.
Regular and periodic meetings will be held to ensure the action plan stays on track, Laftit announced. He called on all stakeholders to fully engage in the project in line with the High Royal Guidelines.
Today’s meeting marks the beginning of a series of regional gatherings, following an earlier session in Rabat two months ago.
The meetings are part of Morocco’s intensive preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
“It is imperative to coordinate local stakeholders’ efforts with those of the Ministry of the Interior and the FRMF,” Laftit said.
The action plan will focus on delivering the infrastructure and facilities required to meet FIFA’s stringent standards, with the aim of making Fez a prime location for World Cup games.
