Rabat – Barcelona have made a formal offer of $80 million plus add‑ons for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon

The Catalan club’s head coach Hansi Flick, and sporting director Deco are strong admirers of Gordon.

They view him as a natural fit for the role Marcus Rashford filled this season.

Rashford, 28, scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists during his loan spell from Manchester United.

Barcelona hold a $30 million option to buy him permanently before June 15, but Gordon’s age and lower salary demands make him an attractive alternative.

A longer contract would allow Barcelona to spread the cost of his transfer fee.

Newcastle’s position

Newcastle coach Eddie Howe hinted earlier this year that Gordon was “looking at the future” when he left him out of matchday squads.

The club now faces a summer where major sales are needed to fund new arrivals. Senior figures believe Gordon’s departure could be the smart move, even if fans are anxious about losing one of their best performers.

Gordon has been central to Howe’s pressing style, especially in the Champions League, where he scored 10 goals in 12 games.

However, Newcastle’s form dipped in the Premier League. With new CEO David Hopkinson and sporting director Ross Wilson determined to avoid last year’s transfer mistakes, negotiations with Barcelona and Bayern have been ongoing for weeks.

Bayern, Chelsea, and Arsenal are interested

Bayern Munich remain interested but hesitant to pay Newcastle’s $80 million valuation. Chelsea have also tracked Gordon, while Arsenal have monitored him long‑term as they search for a left‑sided forward.

Liverpool explored a $75 million deal in 2024 that would have involved Joe Gomez moving the other way, but talks collapsed and the Reds have not returned.

Since joining Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for $40 million, Gordon has made 152 appearances, scoring 17 goals this season across all competitions.

He has become a regular for England under Thomas Tuchel, earning his 17th cap in March and being named in the 26‑man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
